Our history
Almost forty years later the company continues to specialise in the manufacture of electronic instrumentation with particular expertise in data acquisition and analysis, signal conditioning, and computer systems.
During the early years, Beran's reputation was consolidated by the development of an Integrity Tester for wooden railway sleepers for British Railways. Beran was a finalist in the 1989 'Prince of Wales Award for Innovation and Production' with this particular product, and the equipment remains one of the approved testing methods utilised by the British Railway Industry.
Building on this success, Beran moved into further areas of electronic instrumentation for Helitune Ltd, a company specialising in the design and manufacture of Aircraft Vibration Monitoring and Rotor Track and Balance (RTB) systems.
Initially occupying industrial premises of approximately 2,500 square feet until 1991, when Beran relocated to a green-field site of 0.9 acres in Torrington, North Devon, where a purpose-built industrial unit was designed to meet the needs at that time.
From 1992 the Company achieved strategic market positions in both Online Vibration Monitoring Systems (OVMS) for rotating plant.
Helitune, with whom the Company has traded since 1984, was acquired by Beran in June 2000, and the two businesses co-located at the Torrington site, at which time the premises were extended to incorporate a significantly larger production area and additional office space.
In 2005, following the success of the permanently installed online vibration monitoring product, the Company went on to develop the Beran PlantProtechâ„¢ 767 Portable Analyser, designed for plant commissioning, machine balancing, troubleshooting, online monitoring, and return to service.
