Compliance and compatibility
The HP OPU meets stringent EMC and environmental standards, including Mil-Std 810E, Def Stan 59 41, BS.3G.100, and RTCA DO160C. Additionally, it adheres to the interface requirements of the Rotorcraft Industry Technology Association (RITA), ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
Versatile usage
Designed to produce a speed reference signal from a rotating component, the HP OPU is essential for timing and indexing applications. With an operating range of up to 2 meters, it offers an efficient solution when using a Magnetic Pick-Up (MPU) is impractical or unsafe. Helitune's OPUs are optimised for aircraft installations, particularly suited for helicopter tail rotors and high-speed transmission shafts.
Advanced Operating Principle
The HP OPU operates by emitting an infrared light beam, which is reflected back by a target coated with reflective tape or paint on the rotating component. Each time the target passes, the unit produces an electrical pulse and the red LED indicator on the OPU body illuminates. This pulse is crucial for generating a speed output and providing a timing reference for balance data, vibration signatures, and tracking information.
